These refrigerators stand out because of their distinctive features, like through-the-door dispensers as well as higher-end Ice makers.

We contacted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects - for her tips on how to select the right one. They weighed the capacity of storage, layout and energy efficiency as well as other factors.

The fridge comes with 17 shelves and compartments. It also has a decent-sized icemaker that is tucked away in the left door, but it's not the largest I've seen.

You can alter the shelving in each compartment to create a customized storage arrangement for what you want to keep. The GE PYE22PYNFS's design for the interior is attractive, too. The LED lighting adds an attractive feature. The bins for storage inside have a third shelf which can be folded down to store tall objects. The drawers come with temperature controls so you can set them for Beverage, Meat or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to shut and open, but I found the plastic's textured coatings to be a bit rough on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator has all the features you would expect from a refrigerator within this price range. It has Wi-Fi, app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and has many options for customizing. It also alerts you when a door is left open, when your fridge or freezer needs defrosting and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be nice if GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill which is a feature available in a handful of GE refrigerators that allows users to select how many cups they want to pour out. It does offer a countdown feature on the display of the fridge to display how much water you have remaining, but that's not as useful as Precise fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. The freezer temperatures remained steady at a level that was just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and never changing by more than a fraction a degree--this is key to avoiding freezing burn. LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The top shelf on the right can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. You'll also find a full width deli drawer and an internal water dispenser.

One of the nice things about this refrigerator is that the ice maker is inside the freezer, which makes it easy to transfer frozen ice to the fridge to use as required. The freezer also features thoughtful design features, such as sliding drawers that can help you sort your things. It has a large bin for storing frozen food and a separate one for ice.

Its capacity is superior for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a great layout. It's also less expensive than the most expensive counter depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, which makes it a desirable choice.

It's a basic refrigerator that may not be as appealing like some of its competitors however, it does have enough features to make a an excellent choice. Its most important feature is the adjustable temperature drawer which helps keep food items like veggies and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water dispenser and a decent ice maker that operates quickly.

The "Chill Drawer", which is located above the two crisper bins, is a excellent feature. This drawer lets you divert some of the fridge's cooling power directly to this area, which means you can store foods that require special attention. This feature can be adjusted using a slider on the outside of the drawer. You can also adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've found that the generic settings work better than the specific ones.

During my tests, I found that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent in various parts of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the refrigerator did not differ much from 38 degrees. This is a good performance, but isn't quite at the top of our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. The fridge can be linked with a smart thermostat to obtain more precise readings of the internal temperature of your fridge.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is constructed of stainless steel with a grey-bodied body with a "smudge-proof" finish. It is capable of repelling fingerprints and streaks even when compared to the shiny stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tried.
