In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor in My area is located near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are several pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. Look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a significant decrease in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, three were drenched in gasoline and the 4th was dry. When I crank the engine without sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stay shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get zero Ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft In My area order to make a decision about fuel injector timing etc. To do this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). 5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a number of problems within your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi car key, as it transmits information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the engine is spinning. If this sensor fails, it could disrupt the performance of the transmission, as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and audi key fob transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU is then able to process this signal to regulate fuel, timig, and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You should see approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those points.
