World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. This is the sum of all its leveled up benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader you choose and what kind of upgrade you decide to perform. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.

Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and can be seen on all item tooltips. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is restricted to an lower level). Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can look at the levels of the item. It's a good indicator of an item upgrader kit's quality and how much damage it will be capable of dealing with. Comparing items from the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the level of the item.

On PC, you can view the item level by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are various theories on how the item level calculation is carried out. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This can result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is typically very close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.

This is not the only factor that affects the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped can change its stats. For example it can increase the item's haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game utilizes them in various ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Another way to change the stats of an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to provide items with extra damage, special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to differentiate them by putting a name on them.

Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circles arrows. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item level upgrade are based on the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it is a unique item or a God roll from a raid boss.

This is another thing that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis, and the item compare interface would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment in earlier waves and is therefore more valuable in early game runs as opposed to later ones, because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance, which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be made or spawn by using the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to add another 40 luck or to boost an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Additionally, certain items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be purchased from the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their items if it does not work.

When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading the item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item may affect the success of an upgrade. All items have an overall success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

It is important to note that upgrade item items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
